Baton Rouge, La. – On March 17, 2023, a Natchitoches Parish man was apprehended in New Orleans by the United States Marshal Service Violent Offender Task Force.
NOTICE – Annual Quarantine List
The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry filed a Potpourri Notice with the State Register to publish the Annual Quarantine list for 2023 as provided for in LAC 7:XV.109.
NOTICE – Pesticides Final Rule
The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry filed a Final Rule with the State Register giving the public notice that the Department is enacting rule LAC 7:XXIII.1103(G) relative to exempting pesticides containing 2,4-D choline salt from certain applicator restrictions between April 1 and September 15.
West Carroll man arrested for felony theft in Morehouse Parish
Baton Rouge, La. – On March 21, 2023, a West Carroll Parish man was arrested by inspectors with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry’s (LDAF) Livestock Brand Commission. The arrest was a result of an arrest warrant from Morehouse Parish regarding an investigation conducted by the Livestock Brand Commission.
Missouri man arrested for livestock theft in Allen Parish
Baton Rouge, La. – On March 14, 2023, a Missouri man was arrested for theft of livestock in Allen Parish by the Rural Crimes Investigative Unit of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The arrest was made on a warrant following an investigation conducted by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF)’s Livestock Brand Commission.
Opening of Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program Fiscal Year 2023 Application Cycle
Baton Rouge, La. – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP) announces the opening of the fiscal year (FY) 2023 application cycle. NIFA anticipates that approximately $10 million in funding will be available in FY23 to help mitigate food animal veterinary service shortages in the United States. VMLRP helps qualified veterinarians offset a significant portion of the debt incurred in pursuit of their veterinary medical degrees in return for their service in certain high-priority veterinary shortage areas.
LDAF to hold Unwanted Pesticide Collection Day March 23 in Napoleonville
Baton Rouge, La. – Agricultural producers, pesticide applicators, and homeowners can drop off pesticides for disposal during the Unwanted Pesticide Pick-Up Day on Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the LSU AgCenter Extension Office in Assumption Parish, 119 Robin Street in Napoleonville.
Caldwell Parish man arrested for timber theft
Baton Rouge, La. – On February 17, 73-year-old James H. Rowland of Columbia, LA, was arrested following an investigation by the LDAF Forestry Enforcement Division.
LDAF encourages participation in Louisiana’s Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program
Baton Rouge, La. – Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., encourages senior citizens 60 years old and older who meet certain income requirements to apply for Louisiana’s Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). The program, which LDAF administers through a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant, provides food benefits to qualified low-income senior citizens to buy locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey sold at approved farmers’ markets and roadside stands.
