NOTICE OF INTENT - Plant Protection and Quarantine Rules
Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry filed a Notice of Intent with the State Register giving public notice that the Department intends to enact rules LAC 7:XV.173 & 175. These rules are to enact a Lethal Bronzing Quarantine in the parishes of East Baton Rouge, Iberia, Jefferson, Orleans, and West Baton Rouge. These rules also enact a Lethal Yellowing Quarantine in the parishes of East Baton Rouge and Jefferson. The Notice of Intent will be published in the August 20, 2022, State Register.
Vernon Parish Man Arrested for Timber Theft
BATON ROUGE – James Travis Johnson, formerly of Pitkin, LA, but relocated to Leesville, LA, was booked into the Vernon Parish Detention Center on timber theft and other timber-related charges on August 9, 2022. He posted the bond of $15,000 on August 11, 2022. Later that day, he was arrested in Rapides Parish on additional timber theft charges.
The LDAF’s Livestock Brand Commission to host saddle microchipping event
BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry’s (LDAF) Livestock Brand Commission reimplemented its saddle identification program earlier this year. The first event was such a success they have planned another for Thursday, August 25, from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. It will be held at Core Feed, located at 83103 Hwy 25 in Folsom, LA.
Moving cotton harvest equipment into Louisiana is restricted without proper inspection
BATON ROUGE – As Louisiana cotton producers move into cotton harvest season, Louisianians will see an influx of used and custom cotton harvest equipment moving into and through the state. With this introduction of equipment into the environment, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) must implement restrictions to protect our cotton producers by preventing the introduction of boll weevils.
